Calvary Deaf Church

Old Church

La Cadena Drive - Riverside, California

1956 - 2003

The Beginning (1956-1966) Bea Berry answered God’s call by starting a church for the deaf in Riverside, and later was joined by husband, John. Royal Ranger, Missionettes, Women’s Ministry, and Men’s Ministry were established.

The Growth (1966-1972) The deaf congregation grew, and then joined at the mother church, Calvary Temple on Columbia Ave. A purchase of a family house and duplexes by the deaf was made on La Cadena.

On Our Own (1972-1988) A church of our own was purchased at the corner of La Cadena/Strong, adjoining with the house and duplexes. These properties were eventually paid off in full. Many missionary fields were supported monthly.

The Change (1988-1995) Fred Gravatt became the next pastor following Bea Berry’s retirement. Many changes occurred in various aspect of church ministry to accommodate the changing of times and church population.

The Challenge (1995-1998) It became a challenge to carry on God’s ministry during the three years of being pastorless. Mission fields were still supported, and several ‘guest’ pastors, along with some of us, preached God’s message.

The Facilitators (1998-2003) God blessed CDC with Pastors Tom & Joyce Mather who help usher the church through the CalTrans’ transaction due to the building of freeway ramps. They helped us maintain ownership of the church after CalTrans demolished the church, and move to a rented church.
